How I Finally Unlocked the Palace in a Pool Domain in Genshin Impact

Unlock Genshin Impact's Palace in a Pool domain on Suigetsu Pool island by electrifying probes with an Electrogranum—no high-level gear needed.

There’s something deeply satisfying about solving a puzzle that’s been staring you in the face for weeks. For me, that puzzle was the Palace in a Pool domain on Suigetsu Pool island. I’d wandered past that giant locked door and those mysteriously dormant Electro Totems more times than I could count, always assuming the solution would come later in the story. Spoiler: it never did. So I rolled up my sleeves, did some old-fashioned adventuring, and finally cracked this ancient Inazuman riddle. If you’re still scratching your head in 2026, fear not – the domain is still there waiting, and the solution hasn’t changed a bit since the 2.1 update dropped all those years ago.

I want to walk you through exactly how I got this domain open. Whether you’re a veteran traveler revisiting Inazuma or a fresh face lured in by Natlan’s volcanic shores, this sequence remains one of the game’s most elegant environmental puzzles. The best part? You don’t need any fancy characters or high-level artifacts – just a little patience and an Electro archer (Fischl is perfect, but even Lisa will do in a pinch).

Step 1 🪽 Summon the Electrogranum and light the probes

First thing you need to do is head to the Suigetsu Pool area, located just east of Sangonomiya Shrine on Watatsumi Island. The moment you arrive, you’ll see the enormous circular pool flanked by four Electro Totems. Behind each totem, partially hidden by rocks and foliage, sits a device called an Electro Probe – a floating stone disk that reacts to Electro energy.

The catch is that the probes aren’t powered up by your attacks directly. You need to borrow nature’s spark. On the cliff directly behind one of the totems (look for the one positioned near the open water edge), you’ll find a severed tree stump with a glowing purple Electrogranum on top. Approach it and interact to summon the spirit. While the Electrogranum is active, your character will be surrounded by a crackling violet aura. This aura will automatically electrify any probe you walk past – no button press required.

Now here’s where the rush begins. The Electrogranum’s blessing only lasts about 15 seconds before it vanishes, and if you’re too slow you’ll have to scramble back up to the stump for a fresh summon. I recommend you plan a route before you start: I went clockwise around the pool, sprinting past each probe in turn. You’ll probably need to summon the Electrogranum at least twice – I definitely did on my first attempt. A fully electrified probe gains a prominent purple ring of light around its circumference. If all four are lit and the totems remain locked, it almost always means one of the early probes has timed out and lost its charge. Don’t panic, just run back, resummon, and tag them again.

Pro tip: If you have a friend in co-op, they can stand near a probe and keep it active with their own Electro character, but honestly this puzzle is perfectly soloable with a bit of cardio.

Step 2 ⚡ Activate the Electro Totems to lower the water

With all four probes humming, the totems will unlock with a satisfying chime. Now you need to strike each of the four totems with an Electro attack. I brought along my trusty Fischl and her bow, which let me target each totem from a comfortable distance without needing to reposition. The activation order doesn’t matter – just zap them all. As soon as the fourth totem lights up, you’ll hear the rumble of ancient mechanisms and watch the water level inside the pool drop dramatically, revealing stone steps and a muddy lower level.

If you’ve done everything correctly, the pool will look a bit like a drained reservoir. Take a moment to appreciate the view – but not too long, because there’s more water to remove.

Step 3 🔑 Drain the water completely via the underground chamber

Jump down into the now-shallow pool. You’ll notice a large red-painted door set into one of the walls – that’s our ultimate goal, but it’s still locked. For now, swim or wade to the opposite side of the pool, directly away from that red door, until you spot a small mossy hatch next to a gnarled tree. The hatch blends in pretty well with the rock wall, but it’s right next to a tree trunk you can climb.

Climb the tree, hop onto the ledge above the hatch, and enter a cramped little chamber. Inside you’ll find a handful of Slimes – nothing a few swings can’t handle. Clear them out and then look at the walls. Three rhombus-shaped keystones are embedded in the stone. Interact with all three to unlock the chamber’s metal door and let some fresh (well, damp) air in.

Step outside and immediately look to your right. You’ll see another tree clinging to the wall like it’s trying to escape. Use this tree and the uneven bricks in the wall to parkour your way up to a narrow rocky ledge. From there, you can jump across to the opposite side of the shaft where a large interactable cubic switch waits. Smack it once, and the water in the main pool will lower all the way, revealing the final floor.

Step 4 🚪 Open the red door at last

Climb back up, exit the tower via the wooden ladder near the lever you just passed, and drop into the pool one more time. Now you can walk right up to that previously locked red door and swing it open. Inside awaits the Palace in a Pool domain – a one-time clear domain that rewards you with 40 Primogems, some Hero’s Wit, and a handful of electro sigils. It’s not the most mind-blowing reward in 2026’s Teyvat economy, but those Primogems still count toward your next 5-star pull, and the satisfaction of clearing a puzzle that’s baffled so many travelers is priceless.

If you’re revisiting this domain after a long break, note that it doesn’t reset like artifact domains. It’s purely a one-and-done exploration reward, so you won’t be farming it weekly. Still, completing it is a requirement for 100% exploration progress on Watatsumi Island, and it’s one of those milestones that makes your map feel truly finished.

Quick checklist before you set out

  • ✅ Have an Electro bow user or any reliable Electro applicator ready.

  • ✅ Make sure you’re not in the middle of a quest that might lock the Suigetsu Pool area (very rare, but it can happen).

  • ✅ Pack stamina food if your max stamina isn’t maxed out – those climbing segments can be tight.

Honestly, I wish more puzzles in the game recaptured this mix of simple logic and frantic execution. There are no obscure texts to translate, no convoluted astrology to decipher – just a pool, some lightning, and a lot of climbing. Even in 2026, with the game now expanded to half a dozen nations, the Palace in a Pool remains a favorite memory of mine. It’s proof that sometimes the best secrets are hidden in plain sight, just waiting for an adventurer stubborn enough to figure them out.

Genshin Impact continues to be available for free across all major platforms including PlayStation, PC, and mobile devices.
